ENAC Sustained Attention

Neuro-SensomotoricPSY1

You see four characters in four places: NW, NE, SW and SE. Then each board shows four grids of characters, one in each place, and for each place you say whether its own character is in its grid. The grids are built from those same four characters, so only the one that belongs to the place counts. The exam format is 3 series of 5 boards, with 3 minutes for each series.

~11 min

Overview

The clock runs for the whole series, not for each board, and a board only counts if all four boxes are right. You get 36 seconds a board (three minutes for five boards), so 9 seconds a grid. If one grid is taking too long, give its box an answer anyway, finish the board, and come back to it with Previous while the series clock is still running. A board you never open scores nothing.

Assessments

Part of the Air France Cadets selection at ENAC (PSY1) battery as “Attention 1”.

Four look-alike characters bound to four corners, then boards of grids drawn from those same four: three series of five boards, the characters learnt before each series, then three minutes for its five boards. Each corner has one answer box with three states; the exercise here counts a box left with no answer as wrong. The answer boxes move from board to board while the grids above them do not.

Battery mappings are based on public information and may change.

Four characters, four places

A series starts with four characters, one in each place. Learn them, because you won’t see them again until the series ends.

One board, four grids

  • Each grid is made of the other three characters. Look in each place’s grid for that place’s own character. If it’s there, it’s there once.
  • A box starts with no answer. One click says the character isn’t there, a second says it is.
  • After the first board the boxes get shuffled, and on this one none of them sits under its own grid. Read each label before you click.

Game Phases

1

Fix the Four

Before the boards start, say the four characters to yourself in place order: NW, NE, SW, SE. They won't come back during the series.

2

One Grid, One Character

Look for that place's own character and nothing else. It's there once at most, so mark it the moment you spot it and move on to the next grid.

3

Stems First

With b, d, p and q, look at the stem first: up for b and d, down for p and q. Then check which side of the round part it's on.

4

Read the Label

From the second board on, the boxes get shuffled every time. Read the label, Present in NE, before you click, not where the box sits.

ENAC Symbol Counting

Two counting exercises, and every board gets interrupted twice by a grid of colour words. In Attention 2 you count one symbol among two others that look a lot like it. In Attention 3 you count the x signs, minus after a / and plus again after a +. Each grid stays open for 12 seconds. In Attention 2 you tick the words written in their own colour, and in Attention 3 the ones that aren't. The exam format is 10 boards of each, 90 seconds a board.
