Auditory Detection Test

Neuro-Sensomotoric

Monitor a spoken number stream in your headphones and respond only to the targets — or to the hidden even/odd runs.

~3 min

Overview

The Auditory Detection Test measures selective attention on the audio channel: catching rule-matching items inside a continuous spoken stream, the way pilots catch their callsign on a busy frequency. Targets mode mirrors the US Air Force TBAS listening tests; pattern mode reproduces the even/odd-run rule of the audio task inside the DLR cockpit coordination test (the module prep vendors call MIC) — practice it clean here before facing it under load.

Assessments

Tested in assessments at Lufthansa Group.

Airline mappings are based on public information and may change.

Example: catching items by ear

In the real test the items are spoken — the screen only pulses to show that something played. The streams below are written out so you can watch both rules work.

"5" is not a target → stay silent (that's correct and free).

Respond to real events only
A correct response inside the window is +1. Missing a real event is −1, and so is pressing when nothing matched — or pressing the wrong colour on a run. Silence on everything else is correct and costs nothing, so guessing never pays. In pattern mode your window opens on the third same-parity number and closes when the next number finishes.

Game Phases

1

Listen

Put on headphones and confirm the sound check. A continuous stream of spoken items plays — the screen never shows which item you heard.

2

Hold the Rule

Targets: keep your 3–5 memorized digits live in mind. Pattern: keep a running count of consecutive even and odd numbers, refreshed on every item.

3

Respond in the Window

Space for a heard target — or the green/red key on the third even/odd in a row. Each event has a short window; hesitate and it becomes a miss.

4

Withhold Otherwise

Most items match nothing. Staying silent on them is correct and free; pressing on them is a false alarm and costs a point.

ENAC Symbol Counting

Two counting exercises, and every board gets interrupted twice by a grid of colour words. In Attention 2 you count one symbol among two others that look a lot like it. In Attention 3 you count the x signs, minus after a / and plus again after a +. Each grid stays open for 12 seconds. In Attention 2 you tick the words written in their own colour, and in Attention 3 the ones that aren't. The exam format is 10 boards of each, 90 seconds a board.

ENAC Sustained Attention

You see four characters in four places: NW, NE, SW and SE. Then each board shows four grids of characters, one in each place, and for each place you say whether its own character is in its grid. The grids are built from those same four characters, so only the one that belongs to the place counts. The exam format is 3 series of 5 boards, with 3 minutes for each series.

ENAC Dials Reading

Eight car and aircraft dials, with a table underneath that has a column for each of their ten readings. Tick the value each dial shows. You get to study the dials before the clock starts, and they stay put for the whole run. The exam format is 10 boards in 6 minutes.

ENAC Odd and Even

Starting from START, click every one, odd and even in turn, with the odd numbers in ascending order and the even ones in ascending order, each on its own. A wrong click sends you back to START. The exam format is 5 boards with 90 seconds each.

ENAC Shapes and Colours
