Task Manager

Intellectual

Enter new autopilot values quickly and accurately while cancelling red alerts within three seconds — the COMPASS-style two-task screen, on one shared keyboard.

~6 min

Overview

The Task Manager measures divided attention: the ability to manage two concurrent tasks quickly and accurately without letting either collapse. It is modelled on the COMPASS Task Manager subtest (COMPASS International / EPST), present in both the cadet COMPASS and Advanced COMPASS batteries, whose published rule this game follows exactly: you score a point for each correct autopilot update and for each alert cancelled in under three seconds. The screen layout — an autopilot settings panel beside a NEW INFORMATION panel — follows the official test material; the pacing of new targets and alerts is this platform's own calibration, since the publisher does not document it, and the target scores are provisional practice anchors set from owner play-testing rather than official cutoffs. The real test grades candidates 1–7 against a norm group, and its norm data shows practice moves this score less than most subtests — which makes fluency with the two-task rhythm, not the arithmetic of any single update, the thing worth training.

Assessments

Example: one update, step by step

A full cycle of the two-task rhythm — entering one set of autopilot values while a red alert interrupts halfway.

1
New information arrives

The right panel demands Altitude 34000, Heading 125, Speed 310. The altitude field is highlighted — just start typing its digits.

2
Type — the field fills and auto-advances

Three digits in: the entry reads 3-4-0 with two to go. When a field is full the highlight jumps to the next one by itself; Tab or the arrow keys switch fields manually, Backspace corrects.

A red alert interrupts

Press its digit — 7 — immediately: only a cancel inside three seconds scores. Both tasks share one keyboard, so that 7 also lands in your altitude entry (now 3-4-0-7, flashed red). This mirrors what real candidates report — answer the alert first, then Backspace and repair.

Finish all three fields — the update scores a point

Altitude repaired to 34000, heading and speed entered: the moment every value matches, the update scores a point and the panel confirms. After a short pause the next NEW INFORMATION appears — that rhythm repeats for the whole run.

Strategy
Alerts outrank everything: an update point waits for you, an alert point expires in three seconds. Answer the alert the instant it appears, accept the entry damage, repair with Backspace, and keep the typing rhythm going. Points come from steady completion of both tasks, not perfection on one.

Game Phases

1

Configure

Choose the run length. The real sitting is short — treat the 5-minute run as the assessment-style option.

2

Manage both tasks

Keep entering new autopilot values while cancelling every red alert within three seconds.

3

Review

See your score split into updates and fast alert cancels, with reaction-time averages.

Multitasking Test

Two tasks at once: scan number grids for duplicate pairs while answering spoken questions from your phonebook, agenda, mental math and word categories — some of which must be answered at an exact moment on the clock.

Motion Challenge

A ball maze planning test in the style of Aon's motionChallenge: slide the blocks clear and steer the orange ball into the black hole in as few moves as you can. Six minutes on the clock, as many puzzles as you can solve, one level up after every solve.

M-TASK Multitasking Test

Three tasks at once in the Schuhfried M-TASK format: work a symbol queue in its stated priority order, fill arithmetic blanks against a time bar, and reorder symbol rows to match a target. One clock, a neglected panel drags the whole score, and every run records a replay. Or go endless in Challenge, where the first mistake ends the run.

ENAC Marble Tubes

Two boards of three tubes hold the same numbered marbles. Count the fewest moves that turn the top board into the bottom one, then click that number. A move takes the top marble of a tube and puts it on top of another tube. The tubes hold 3, 2 and 3 marbles. The exam format is 10 boards with 20 seconds each.

ENAC Slid Shapes

Two 6 × 6 grids and a tray of pieces. Slide pieces onto your grid until it matches the figure beside it. A light cell of a piece flips the square under it and a dark cell changes nothing, so two light cells on one square cancel out. The exam format is 5 boards with 3 minutes each.

ENAC Airspace Conflict Watch

Aircraft cross two bands of six airways, blue ones from right to left and violet ones from left to right. Each band has a grey zone that can never hold more than 4 aircraft, or more than 2 blue ones. You close airways to keep both zones within their limits, and you divert as few aircraft as you can. The exam format is 10 boards in a row.
