Math: Weight

Intellectual

Add or subtract two weights expressed in kilograms and grams.

~6 min

Overview

The Weight test measures your ability to perform arithmetic on kilograms and grams under time pressure. Each problem shows two weights and an operator (+ or −). Kilograms range up to 20. Race the clock and pick the correct weight from the four choices.

Assessments

Tested in assessments at KLM.

Could show up in Schuhfried, cut-e / Aon, COMPASS, DLR, ADAPT, PILAPT and SHL-based selections.

Airline mappings are based on public information and may change.

Example: add the weights

The two weights are stacked like a written sum, each split into kilograms and grams. Add the grams, carry a kilogram out of every 1000 g, and pick the exact total. The wrong options sit only a small gram offset away, so the carry has to be computed, not guessed.

2 kilogram, 750 gram
1 kilogram, 500 gram
+
A)4 kilogram, 250 gram
B)4 kilogram, 350 gram
C)4 kilogram, 205 gram
D)3 kilogram, 250 gram
Explanation

Grams first: 750 + 500 = 1250 g = 1 kg 250 g — write 250, carry the kilogram. Kilograms: 2 + 1 + 1 = 4 kilogram, 250 gram. A kilogram is 1000 g, not 100 — that carry is the whole question. The distractors are near-misses by design: 100 g heavy, 45 g light, one kilogram short — close enough that only the exact sum survives.

ENAC Mental Calculation

Four series of ten boards, back to back, each on its own clock. You type the result of a chain of additions and subtractions, type the value of the last letter in a small system, choose the narrowest of 10 intervals that holds a result, then tick every one of 7 intervals that does. On the ENAC EPL form, every chain in the first series ends on a multiplication and each series gets 4 minutes. On the Air France Cadets form, the first series is sums only and each series gets 6 minutes.
