Syllogisms

Intellectual

Read three statements and pick the conclusion that logically follows. Tests your deductive reasoning under time pressure.

~10 min

Overview

The Syllogisms test measures your deductive reasoning ability under time pressure. Each item presents three premises and four candidate conclusions. Only one conclusion follows necessarily from the premises; the others may sound plausible but cannot be deduced with certainty. The fourth option ("No logical answer can be determined from the statements") is sometimes the correct answer — read carefully before choosing.

Assessments

Tested in assessments at KLM.

Could show up in Schuhfried, cut-e / Aon, SHL and ADAPT-based selections.

Example: which conclusion follows?

Read the statements as given — even if they aren't true in real life — then pick the one conclusion that must follow. The correct answer is highlighted below.

Statement 1:All architects are creative.

Statement 2:All creative people enjoy problem-solving.

Statement 3:Some architects work in cities.

A)All architects enjoy problem-solving.
B)All creative people are architects.
C)Everyone who enjoys problem-solving is an architect.
D)No logical answer can be determined from the statements
Explanation
Statements 1 and 2 chain together: every architect is creative, and every creative person enjoys problem-solving, so every architect must enjoy problem-solving. The statement about cities is irrelevant to that conclusion. The other options reverse a statement — being creative, or enjoying problem-solving, does not make someone an architect.

ENAC Word Boxes

Six empty boxes sit round the screen, and words appear one at a time in the middle. Each box takes one field of words, like fruit or weather, but nothing tells you which. Click the box each word belongs in. The first word of a field can go in any empty box, and a wrong box sends the word back for later. Each field's own name shows up after its four other words. The exam format is 5 boards of 30 words, with 2.5 seconds a word.
