ENAC Reversed Series

IntellectualPSY1

Digits come up one at a time in the same spot, a second each. When they’ve gone, you type them back in reverse, the last one first. The sequences grow from 4 to 9 digits. The exam format is 12 sequences, about 3:30.

Overview

Don’t hold the digits in the order they come and turn them round at the end. From about seven digits on, there isn’t time. Turn them round as they come instead. Take the digits in twos or threes, and as each group is complete, say it to yourself backwards as one number: 3, 8, 1 becomes one hundred and eighty-three. Keep the groups newest first, which is the order you’ll type them in. The last digit or two you can type straight from what you just saw. You won’t know how long a sequence is until it stops, so use a group size that works at any length. Practise at the real pace, because a slower stream gives the first digits longer to fade. And click the box before your first key, every time.

Assessments

Part of the Air France Cadets selection at ENAC (PSY1) battery as “Mémoire de travail I”.

A cross marks the start of a series and then digits go past one at a time in the same place, about a second each, at a pace nothing you do can change. When they stop you have a few seconds, ten at most, to type the series back in reverse on the number keys. About a dozen series climb from four digits to nine, and the length is never announced, so you cannot tell whether one digit is left or four. The working-memory test that runs beside it announces a deduction for a wrong answer, and this one does not.

Battery mappings are based on public information and may change.

One sequence, typed backwards

+62311326
  • A + marks the start, for 1 second. Then the digits come one at a time in the same spot, 1 second each, with nothing between them.
  • When the last one has gone, the answer box comes up. Click it, then type the digits from the last one back to the first: here 6 2 3 1 is typed 1326.
  • In the exam you get 10 seconds in the box. Enter hands your answer in, and so does the end of the 10 seconds.

Three sequences to try

Here the box has no clock, and each one is corrected before the next.

Game Phases

1

Reset on the +

The + means a new sequence. Let the last one go and be ready for the first digit.

2

Reverse as You Go

Group the digits in twos or threes and turn each group round the moment it’s complete.

3

Click, Then Type

Click the box before your first key, then type from the last digit back to the first.

4

10 Seconds to Type

A nine-digit answer takes a few of your 10 seconds, so start typing straight away.

ENAC Memory N-Back

Letters come up one at a time, and for each one you say whether it’s the same letter as the one three, four or five before it. Capitals and small letters count as the same. The exam format is two tests back to back: a 3-back then a 4-back for ENAC EPL, a 4-back then a 5-back for Air France Cadets. It hasn’t been set since 2020.

Visual N-Back

Shapes in colours go past one at a time. On every one, say whether it is the same shape AND the same colour as the one a few places back — and the lag you are matching against changes from block to block.

ENAC Running Comparison

A stream of simple calculations, one at a time. For each one, tick whether its result is identical to or different from the one it's compared with: the result just before, the one two back, or a fixed value X, depending on the block. The exam format is 100 answers in four blocks of 25, about 12 minutes.
