Aon (cut-e) Test Preparation

What is the Aon (cut-e) assessment?

Lesson 1 of 4•2 min read

cut-e was a Hamburg-based assessment company acquired by Aon in 2017, and its tests remain the backbone of pilot screening at a remarkable number of airlines and academies. The assessment is distinctive: instead of one long exam, it is a chain of short, web-based modules — many lasting only a few minutes each — with very strict per-module time limits. Because each module uses an unusual, purpose-built format, familiarity with the format is the single biggest score lever available to you.

Who uses it — confirmed by the operators themselves

  • Ryanair — its own job listings name an online assessment conducted using Aon, with a €60 candidate fee at recent intakes.

  • Delta Air Lines — delta.com's pilot hiring FAQ names the Aon online assessment.

  • FTEJerez — its own pre-test guidance names cut-e as the provider of its seven computerised aptitude tests, with results valid for 12 months, one retake allowed, and a 12-month wait after an unsuccessful attempt.

  • Leading Edge Aviation — its own skills-assessment guidance names the Aon modules it uses, including complex control, working memory and deductive logical reasoning, with a £150 assessment fee credited to your course deposit and up to three sittings allowed.

  • Volotea cadets (via BAA Training) — BAA's own page describes a 3.5-hour Aon test.

  • easyJet FlightCrew Futures (via Skyborne) — Skyborne's own easyJet page names the Aon assessment tool.

  • Skyborne Airline Academy — its own selection guidance is built around the Aon assessment, its pages state selection itself is free, and it also runs the Aon-based flight-school stage of British Airways' Speedbird Pilot Academy.

Other likely users

Aon is also the likely provider for easyJet's direct-entry screening, Aer Lingus, Jet2's pilot aptitude stage, flydubai, Air India's cadet selection and American Airlines' online Pilot Skills Test. Selection procedures evolve and providers change between intakes, so always verify the current process on the official site of the airline or school you are applying to.
