Prepare for Emirates Flight Training Academy

One course covers the selection you sit at Emirates Flight Training Academy.

The academy runs its own admissions: an online psychometric assessment precedes the Dubai stage, where COMPASS is sat alongside physics and maths papers.

Emirates Flight Training Academy is the airline's own ab-initio school, built from scratch on a purpose-designed campus in Dubai with its own runway, hangars and residential accommodation. Cadets fly a modern fleet through single-engine and multi-engine phases before finishing on Embraer Phenom jets, and the academy was conceived as the training end of Emirates' pilot supply rather than as a commercial flight school that happens to have an airline attached.

The integrated ATPL runs 104 to 113 weeks and puts cadets through more than 270 flight hours across four aircraft types under a competency-based methodology, taking them from zero hours to first-officer level. Two very different entry routes lead into the same course: UAE nationals may qualify for Emirates' fully sponsored National Cadet Pilot Programme, while self-sponsored international cadets pay in the region of $220,500 — a fee that covers the whole programme, materials, student visa, accommodation, uniform and three meals a day for the duration, with medical insurance the notable exclusion.

Admission is the academy's own and runs to five stages. An online psychometric assessment comes first, then a pre-recorded HireVue video interview, and then the assessment in Dubai itself, where candidates sit COMPASS alongside mathematics and physics papers before interviews and the medical. COMPASS is an online aptitude battery of five modules — hand-eye coordination, hand-eye-foot coordination, spatial orientation, multitask management and short-term memory — and it is the part of admissions that is genuinely a skill rather than a qualification. Given the cost and the competition for sponsored places, it is also the part most worth preparing properly.
