Edelweiss Air is Switzerland's leisure airline and a sister company to SWISS within the Lufthansa Group, flying Airbus A320-family aircraft on European holiday routes and A340s and A350s on long-haul services from Zurich. It carries a distinctly Swiss brand and operates to destinations the mainline network does not serve.
Flying for Edelweiss Air
Edelweiss recruits non-type-rated A320 First Officers, requiring a CPL with multi-engine instrument rating, completed ATPL theory and an MCC certificate, alongside the unrestricted right to live and work in Switzerland. Candidates training in Switzerland can access a financing model shared by SWISS and Edelweiss within the Lufthansa Group, conditional on a favourable decision at a pre-airline-fit selection step. Fleet growth — six A350-900s and five A320neos arriving alongside network expansion — is driving demand for both new pilots and internal promotions through 2026.
The DLR certificate is a prerequisite for applying, not merely a stage within the process. That computer-based assessment covers memory, spatial awareness, mathematical and technical comprehension, English, attention, psychomotor skills, teamwork, multitasking and personality — so for this airline the aptitude testing happens before the application rather than after it, which changes when preparation has to be done.
