No Oman Air course yet

Most operators screen with the same aptitude tests, so a general assessment course still covers the bulk of the selection.

Oman Air is the flag carrier of Oman, operating from Muscat International Airport with a fleet of Boeing 737s and 787 Dreamliners across the Gulf, the subcontinent, Europe and Asia. It has repositioned in recent years around a smaller, more focused network, and joined the oneworld alliance as the group's first Middle Eastern member.

Flying for Oman Air

Oman Air's cadet scheme is unusually explicit about who pays. It is open to Omani nationals up to 26 years old holding a General Diploma or secondary school certificate with at least 80% in mathematics, physics and English, and it splits into two categories: sponsored Cadet-Pilots and self-sponsored Ab-Initio Pilots. Sponsored cadets contribute 30% of the training cost with the airline covering the rest, train at an approved training organisation chosen by the airline, and move to a type rating course on completion. Experienced direct-entry First Officers are recruited separately for the 737 and A330 fleets.

The 80% subject thresholds mean the academic filter bites before any aviation assessment does, and what follows is the familiar sequence of aptitude and psychometric testing, English assessment, interviews and a class 1 medical. For a scheme where the candidate still carries 30% of the cost, passing the aptitude stage first time has a directly measurable value.
