Lund University School of Aviation (Trafikflyghögskolan, TFHS) is Sweden's only university pilot programme, run by Lund University from Ljungbyhed in Skåne, an airfield whose flying history stretches back over a century. As part of a state university, its professional pilot training is tuition-free, with only around 20 places per intake, and it operates as an EASA Approved Training Organisation that also trains for the Swedish Armed Forces, Coastguard and Police.

Training at Lund University School of Aviation

TFHS delivers its airline pilot programme entirely at Ljungbyhed, combining university-level theoretical education with flight and simulator training on a single campus, and its curriculum is built around the multi-crew, airline-oriented standard that Scandinavian carriers recruit from. Because the programme is publicly funded rather than airline-sponsored, graduates leave with a university education and an airline-ready licence without the six-figure debt typical of integrated training elsewhere in Europe.

With so few places and no tuition fees, selection is fiercely competitive: candidates pass through a multi-stage process that includes aviation-psychology testing on the Schuhfried system, conducted with the Flight Medical Centre (FMC) in Stockholm, plus interviews and a Class 1 medical. Performance on those computer-based aptitude batteries effectively decides who wins a seat, so systematic practice of memory, spatial reasoning and multitasking tests beforehand is close to essential.
