Most operators screen with the same aptitude tests, so a general assessment course still covers the bulk of the selection.

Loganair is the United Kingdom's largest regional airline, based in Glasgow and flying Embraer and ATR aircraft plus Britten-Norman Islanders across Scotland, the Scottish islands, the rest of the UK and into Scandinavia. It operates the public service routes that connect remote island communities — including the world's shortest scheduled flight, between Westray and Papa Westray in Orkney.

Flying for Loganair

Loganair matters to low-hour pilots more than its size suggests: it recruits Newly Qualified First Officers with no minimum flight time requirement, which makes it one of the few genuine first jobs in UK aviation, alongside Direct Entry Captains from other operators. It works with Skyborne Airline Academy on a mentored route where integrated ATPL trainees can be tagged after their first six months of ground school and receive priority placement in the airline's hold pool before they graduate, and with CRM Aviation Europe on an APS MCC course flown to Loganair's own standard operating procedures.

That APS MCC course requires candidates to have completed their multi-engine instrument rating and passed the skills test before starting, and is restricted to UK CAA licence holders with the right to live and work in the UK. With no hours minimum on the First Officer route, the assessment carries almost all the weight in selection — which makes aptitude and simulator preparation the deciding factor rather than a formality.
