Green Flight Academy

Green Flight Academy is a young Swedish flight school in Skellefteå, founded in 2021 and flying its first integrated ATPL class in August 2022. An EASA Approved Training Organisation (ATO.SE.0036), it has made its name as a pioneer of sustainable pilot training, flying a substantial share of its hours on fully electric aircraft from Skellefteå Airport, one of the first fossil-free airports in the world.

Training at Green Flight Academy

The academy runs an integrated EASA airline pilot programme with theory and simulator training on its city-centre campus and flying from Skellefteå Airport, with roughly 30 per cent of flight hours on electric aeroplanes. Its partnership with SAS gives graduates the opportunity to undergo an assessment with the Scandinavian flag carrier after completing the programme, and from August 2026 the school gains state-funded vocational college status, opening tuition-free places on what was previously a self-funded course.

Candidates are screened at entry through interviews and computer-based aptitude and psychometric testing, and the stakes extend beyond admission: the SAS assessment waiting at graduation is a full airline selection in its own right. Training the underlying cognitive skills, from multitasking to spatial orientation, therefore pays off twice, first in winning a place and again when the airline opportunity arrives.
