FTEJerez, also known as Flight Training Europe, is one of Europe's most established and respected flight training organisations, based on a purpose-built residential campus in Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain. Operating to EASA standards and benefiting from the region's plentiful good-weather flying, it specialises in ab-initio airline cadet training and is widely recognised as a leading partner for airline-sponsored programmes.
Training at FTEJerez
FTEJerez delivers its integrated ATPL training through the Airline First Officer Programme (AFOP), taking cadets from zero experience to airline-ready first officers, with airline-style modules such as crew resource management and threat-and-error management built into the syllabus. It is one of Europe's most heavily airline-tagged academies: it hosts the Iberia cadet programme, is a training partner for the British Airways Speedbird Pilot Academy and the Ryanair Future Flyer Academy, has delivered the Aer Lingus Future Pilot Programme, and runs graduate placement arrangements with carriers including TAP Air Portugal, with sponsored and self-funded students training side by side on campus.
Entry is competitive: alongside the computerised aptitude tests FTEJerez delivers in partnership with cut-e (Aon), it sets its own tests, followed by an interview. The integrated course carries no job guarantee and does not include a type rating. Airlines recruit on campus when they need pilots: easyJet, for example, interviews students who have finished their multi-crew cooperation course, and those it hires pay for their own A320 type rating. Strong aptitude-assessment skills therefore count twice, first for a place at the school and again in airline selection.
