Prepare for FlySafair
No FlySafair course yet
Most operators screen with the same aptitude tests, so a general assessment course still covers the bulk of the selection.
FlySafair is South Africa's largest domestic airline, a low-cost carrier headquartered in Johannesburg and operating an all-Boeing 737 fleet of around 36 aircraft. It carries roughly two-thirds of the country's domestic seat capacity and flies to 15 destinations across Sub-Saharan Africa, with a reputation for the best on-time performance of any major South African carrier. The airline grew from cargo and leasing specialist Safair and launched scheduled passenger services in 2014.
Flying for FlySafair
FlySafair hires direct-entry First Officers and Captains for its 737 fleet and also operates a structured cadet entry route for low-hour South African pilots: cadet vacancies at its Johannesburg base require a commercial licence with a minimum of around 200 flying hours, after which successful candidates are developed through the airline's internal progression levels. It is a bridge into jet flying for self-funded licence holders rather than a sponsored ab-initio scheme, and intakes are advertised periodically through the airline's careers portal.
Selection combines computer-based aptitude and psychometric testing with interviews, simulator assessment and reference checks, and competition for cadet slots is fierce given how few paths into a 737 flight deck exist in South Africa. Sharpening your performance on pilot aptitude and cognitive assessments before applying is one of the most reliable ways to improve your odds.
