Discover Airlines

Discover Airlines is the Lufthansa Group's leisure carrier, based at Frankfurt with a second base in Munich and flying Airbus A320-family aircraft on European routes alongside A330s on long-haul services to the Caribbean, Africa and North America. It launched as Eurowings Discover and was renamed in 2023, and it sits inside the group as a full subsidiary rather than a franchise.

For a Lufthansa Group cadet this airline is not a footnote but the likely destination: the realistic first assignment for a graduate of the group's training pipeline is Lufthansa City Airlines, Discover Airlines or Eurowings rather than Lufthansa mainline, and a tenure at one of them may be required before progression. Discover also recruits experienced direct-entry pilots for both its narrowbody and widebody fleets.

Entry through the group route means the group's selection: an EASA ATPL frozen or full, a class 1 medical, ICAO English level 4 and the right to work in the EU, with the DLR test at the German Aerospace Center as the gate. That battery — cognitive ability, concentration, multitasking, English, physics and mathematics — is widely regarded as one of the toughest airline selection tests anywhere, and it is the single stage most worth preparing for in European aviation.
