Prepare for American Airlines

One course prepares you for the American Airlines selection process.

Candidate accounts consistently point to cut-e / Aon at American Airlines' online aptitude stage.

American Airlines publishes nothing about it, so treat it as the likely battery rather than a settled fact.

American Airlines does not publish the name of its test provider; the Pilot Skills Test is an unproctored online battery sent after application.

Provider mappings are based on public information and may change. Last checked September 2026.

American Airlines is the largest airline in the world by fleet size and passengers carried, flying from Fort Worth headquarters across hubs at Dallas/Fort Worth — its largest by a wide margin — plus Charlotte, Phoenix, Miami, Chicago O'Hare, Philadelphia, Washington National and both New York airports. Its fleet is built on the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families domestically, with 777s and 787s on international routes, and it is a founding member of oneworld. The American Eagle regional network, flown partly by its wholly owned subsidiaries Envoy, Piedmont and PSA, feeds the mainline hubs.

Flying for American Airlines

American hires mainline first officers who already hold an FAA ATP certificate and substantial flight time, most of them arriving from a regional carrier or the military. The American Airlines Cadet Academy is the structured route in from zero hours: training at partner schools takes a cadet through to certified flight instructor with an instrument rating, self-funded but with access to the American Airlines Federal Credit Union's dedicated cadet loan programme, after which graduates take a conditional offer at Envoy, Piedmont or PSA and build hours toward ATP minimums. Because American holds contractual flow-through agreements with all three wholly owned regionals, seniority there converts into a mainline seat rather than requiring a fresh application. Realistically the full path runs five to seven years.

The airline does not publish who builds its assessments. What candidates consistently describe is the Pilot Skills Test: an unproctored online battery of short modules sent out after application, covering reasoning, memory, monitoring, numerical work and reaction tasks, which candidate-side accounts attribute to the Aon battery. Later stages are a technical and knowledge evaluation and a competency-based interview weighted heavily toward judgement and crew resource management. The online battery is unsupervised and sat at home, which tempts people to treat it lightly — and it is the stage that quietly ends most applications.
